Archana Horsting: The View from Here: Artist's Reception

We are thrilled and honored to invite you to join us for the opening show of the season, "The View From Here", celebrating the works of Archana Horsting! 
On Friday, September 10th, from 5-8pm, come meet this amazing woman and artist, share a glass from one of our local wineries, enjoy some good conversation and, of course, see this bold and serene selection works.
"The View From Here" runs from Sept. 1-Sept. 25, 2021.
With their bold simplicity and sensuous lines, Archana Horsting's works have a visceral impact on their viewers. Deep blacks, shining whites and nuanced greys bring into existence worlds where negative and positive space gently undulate, breathing the imagery to life. While presenting us with extreme contrasts, whether it be light and dark, straight lines, gentle curves or bold shapes, she has an extraordinary talent of leave us feeling not overwhelmed by her large scale pieces but happily intrigued and transported.
Besides being a talented and thought provoking artist, Archana Horsting is the co-founder of Kala Art Institute and has been Executive Director there for 47 years. She has also been a juror for many exhibitions, a visiting artist at UC Santa Cruz and Mills College and has also been a curator of exhibitions, locally and as far afield as Belarus, Ecuador, Uzbekistan and Australia. Her artwork has been exhibited and collected throughout the U.S. and internationally. Archana Horsting is the recipient of the Alameda County Arts Leadership Award in 2012 and a Bay Area Visionary Award from Southern Graphics Council International in 2014. In 2015 she received the Benjamin Ide Wheeler medal from the Berkeley Community Fund.
