The bold and monumental paintings of Jan Wurm invite the viewer to become an intimate part of activities and interactions that examine the human experience. The familiar scenarios in which she places her figures combine physical movement and a social and psychological awareness that can leave the viewer feeling a sense of voyeurism. The characters intentions, feelings and next moves lie exposed to the audience but not necessarily to the characters themselves. This insight, coupled with the artist’s visual vocabulary of bold color, heavily outlined forms and intensified perspective, endow the viewer with a thrillingly dizzy sense of recognition, awareness and perhaps even a desire to enter the scene and get involved.
