About the event
SHOH Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of artworks by Sandy Walker. We are excited to invite you to join us as we celebrate movement, memory and love. Come experience this lovely show, meet the artist, and enjoy a glass of wine with other Bay Area art lovers and collectors.
The show will focus on the work Walker has made in relation to his wife, dancer and choreographer Ellen Webb. This exhibition will include drawings done directly of Ellen dancing and representations that Walker has made over the years in film, photography, printmaking and oil painting.
Ellen Webb was a major presence in the Bay Area Dance scene for many years. The Ellen Webb Dance Company performed in major venues in the Bay Area as well around the United States and Europe. She received significant critical notice, reviews and awards. She was also the founding director of the Talking Dance Project. Sandy Walker has had many one person exhibitions in private galleries and museums in the United States and his work is represented in major public collections including MoMA (NYC), The Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art. Most recently he had two one person shows at the SHOH Gallery in Berkeley and two at the Elizabeth Harris Gallery in NYC.
Together Webb and Walker received an Isadora Duncan Dance Award in 1989 for their collaboration on Mountain, Tree, and Water, and have since collaborated on many major dance productions.
